While Corona Virus is
spreading in a very bad way which has become a big cause of concern for all the
scientists in the world. According to
several scientists, the only Herd Immunity could reduce the spreading of COVID
19 until the proper vaccine will be released.
Now the most important question
that comes to everyone mind is
What is Herd
Immunity
When most of a community
is immune to an infectious disease, this provides indirect protection—or herd
immunity (also called herd protection)—to those who are not immune to the
disease. If a sufficient community is resistant to the cause of a disease, such
as a virus or bacteria, it has nowhere to go. When the herd immunity spread
into a large community it makes the spread of disease from individual to
individual unlikely.Therefore, the
entire population gets secured — not simply the individuals who are immune. While not every single
individual may be immune, the peoples as a whole have protection. Herd immunity
protects at-risk populations including each and every people's immune systems
are sick and can’t get immunity on their own.
How Do Anyone Obtain
Herd Immunity?
There’s mainly two ways
to get Herd Immunity – (1)
Either they get it by Naturally OR (2)
Through vaccines
Getting it naturally
Herd immunity can also
be spread when enough amount of people in the population have recovered from a
disease and have developed antibodies against future infection. For example,
those peoples who survived the 1918 flu pandemic were later immune to infection
with the H1N1 flu, a subtype of influenza A. During the 2009-10 flu season,
H1N1 caused the respiratory infection in humans that was usually referred to as
swine flu.
Despite this, there are
some larger problems with relying on community infection to produce herd
immunity to the virus that creates COVID-19.Though scientists have not been yet
clear if infection with the COVID-19 virus causes a person immune to future
infection.
Getting through Vaccines
A vaccine for the virus
that causes COVID-19 would be an excellent suggestion for obtaining herd
immunity. Vaccines create immunity without causing illness or resulting in
difficulties. Herd immunity performs it possible to protect the population from
disease, including those who can't be vaccinated, such as newborns or aged
people whose immune systems are weak. Applying the idea of herd immunity,
vaccines have successfully controlled deadly contagious diseases such as
smallpox, polio, diphtheria, rubella, and many others.
